EMPRESS - Energy Management and Performance Related Energy Savings Scheme

EMPRESS promotes Monitoring and Targeting (M&T), an industrial energy management tool, in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

M&T is initiated by Energy Service Companies that accept the majority of the capital risk for an energy efficiency investment in exchange for a share in the profits accruing from subsequent energy savings. The combination of M&T services and private sector financing has not been used before in Central and Eastern Europe.

EMPRESS is being implemented in close consultation with the Czech Ministries of Environment and the Slovak Energy Agency to establish a long-term institutional framework supported by newly created National Energy Management Centres.

EMPRESS is three-year project that started in October 2003 and is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The overall responsibility of the EMPRESS lies with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Division of Technology, Industry and Economics, Energy Unit.

BASE supports the implementation of the project and assists the project partners in securing further financing of the project related activities.
