Rural Electrification

The project will focus on strengthening operations of three organizations dedicated to rural electrification  in Argentina, Nicaragua, and Brazil, and aims to add new revenue streams through new product introduction (e.g., lamps, improved stoves, water purification systems, etc.) and carbon finance. The analysis of strengthens and weaknesses of the organizations is also intended to help others learn from these experiences.

This project has been structured into the following components:

(i) Analysis of existing models – A detailed analysis of each participating entity to understand their respective strengths and weaknesses.

(ii) Development and incorporation of additional products or services – Determining the mix of new products or services appropriate for each organization taking into consideration the local operating environments and other organizations that operate in the areas.

(iii) Incorporation of carbon finance – Analyzing different possibilities related to how to incorporate carbon finance into the operations of the participating entities.

(iv) Mechanisms to expand reach through alliances with financial institutions – Identifying specific ways that participating entities can partner with financial institutions to increase access to financing for their operations.

(v) Exchange of experiences and dissemination – Exchanging experiences and lessons learned between the participating entities and other interested stakeholders.

This project is being supported by the IFC, and executed in partnership with ARC Finance and POCH Ambiental.
