Sustainable Energy Europe Awards

European Commission prices six projects for their energy-efficient methods

The six projects were prized come from Italy, Austria, Hungary and France and were presented at the Sustainable Energy Europe Awards. European Commission plans to raise the use of renewable energy sources and energy-efficient methods.

The Sustainable Energy Europe Awards 2008, celebrating its second edition, recognized the exceptional work the projects have already accomplished but, above all, for the commitment they have made to sustainable future.
The winners from Italy, selected by an independent selection committee from more than 240 project nominees, were Desire, Fo.R.Agri and InfoEnergy. The first one, based on e-learning and aimed at the countries of Eastern Europe and the Southern Mediterranean, is intended to promote renewable energy. The second programme includes, among other things, the creation of two high-tech Bio-energy Clusters that produce biogas; research and experimentation for an innovative biomass power station.
Province of Milan Action Plan for Energy Efficiency (Province of Milan) introduced a new system of energy certification and InfoEnergy centres for better public communication.
Ökopröfit, from Austria, has helped private companies to optimise their energy consumption, to bring about productivity improvements and cost reductions. From Hungary, comes Integration of Active Learning and Energy Monitoring with School Curriculum which assembles 16 partners in 14 European countries to increase schoolchildren´s awareness of energy conservation.
The special award for the most promising project was received by Model Management of Domains relating to Energy in Local authorities (by Energie-Cités, France). The goal is to help 34 municipalities become real models in terms of sustainable energy use.
